My Bubba & Mi is a folk trio consisting of girls from Sweden, Denmark and Iceland, creating gorgeous harmonies and infectious songs that won't leave your brains for days. I had to slap myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming. I'm hoping to god that they tour the States sometime soon. Yes I realize that sounded creepy as hell but I don't care.
If you like your folk with harmonies, banjos, gorgeous Scandinavian women, harmonicas and accordions, for the love of all that is holy give them a try.
Chalk this up as another artist I either completely ignored or somehow missed the passed few years. Auguste Authur Bondy creates stripped down Americana driven folk, very reminiscent of a much earlier era. If you enjoy J. Tillman, The Tallest Man On Earth or Deer Tick, you will most likely dig Bondy.
I've only recently found out about these guys and I am kicking myself for not listening to them sooner. What can only be described as folk-punk, these guys create short, explosive, witty and fantastically written songs that are as catchy as they are hilarious. Singing about cigarettes to child abuse and everything between, they walk a very fine line between fun and serious. I guess I could best describe them as a pissed off and sarcastic Mountain Goats. So if that sounds as awesome to you as it does to me, give them a fucking try.

What started as a small art/music project has blossomed into something much more. Micah Middaugh, Andrea Moreno-Beals and Trevor Hobbes combine a cello, banjo, guitar and drums into something wonderful. Paddy Mann has been crafting fragile odes to sorrowful times and long lost friends for over a decade now. With his fourth release, he decided to do something a bit different. "Death" is a haunting story that is told by various woodland creatures, each giving you their own view of the world, life and death. The result is a haunting and beautiful 18 "chapter" fairy tale that alternates between Mann's hushed folk songs and spoken word narrative. The result is a fascinating journey through Mann's mind that will leave you delighted and wanting more.
